Tom Jackson

News

Welcome to the official site for Tom Jackson, notable film and television actor, indelible singer and one of Canada’s best activists.

This site merges the man and his multiple careers both on and off stage and his varied philanthropic missions.  For over 40 years, Tom has crafted a compassionate stage of caring.  This is strongly reflected in his music and on the podium.

“I’ve said many times that it’s not about the award, it’s about the reward. Anybody who gets one of these very prestigious accolades will ask themselves, ‘Why me?  Why do I deserve this?’ I guarantee it,” Tom says, before launching into an entrancing story about making a pact with his creator years ago during a difficult time and how that pact changed his life.

“Awards raise the profile of the work, which is really the point.  Being promoted to Companion of the Order of Canada is validating the work my team has done for the last two decades, as well as before.  And when I got the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement in 2014… I don’t know that there’s anything greater than being acknowledged by the people who were in that room and in my life at that time.”

Indeed, Tom — erudite, hilarious, and filled-to-bursting with killer anecdotes — is the kind of guy you pray to be seated beside on a long-haul flight.

Born on One Arrow FN in Saskatchewan, Tom’s first love has always been music and he is driven to create change with the touch of a song, a poem, a musical or a concert tour.

The 34th season of The Huron Carole Virtual closed off 2021 by raising awareness and funds for over 20 food banks, service agencies and charitable organizations. With the return of live performances, Tom’s new series Stories, Songs & Santa Causes emerged over the Christmas season in 2021 and 2022 to once again support various agencies and “get people out of their funk”. 2022 began with a dazzling virtual program The Bear and The Wild Rose. This 4-part online series explores themes of love, home, resilience, magic and dreams amidst the wonder of multi-media, stories, dance, music and the incomparable Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Complimentary viewing online.

As an Ambassador for the Canadian Red Cross, Tom is engaged from fundraising to deployment in communities where emotional support is integral to well-being. After more than 100 days of conflict in Ukraine, the facts and images are particularly disturbing knowing that 7.5 million children are at risk. The spillover is children around the world are being affected by this crisis in ways that they will probably never know. Helping kids be kids again is the mission behind Tom’s fundraising campaigns for the Red Cross. A 35-minute music special produced by Tomali Pictures Ltd. and Joe Media Group in Calgary is available for complimentary online viewing.

Sullivan’s Crossing, a 10-episode series based on the books by beloved author Robyn Carr premiered on CTV in March 2023, and begins on the CW Network October 4. Tom plays the role of Frank Cranebear, an insightful community leader and best friend to “Sully”.  Season 2 is in production now!
